Walter V Sokol

Walter Vincent Sokol, 80, of Kinnelon, NJ passed away on the evening of Feb. 14, 2015 in the comfort of his home . Walter was born Dec. 16, 1934 to parents Vincent Perez and Theresa Sokol of Jersey City, NJ. He graduated from Union Hill High School, Union city, NJ. After serving in the US Navy, Walter went on to play short stop for the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Organization. Shortly after his baseball career ended, Walter was employed with Hopes Windows in their commercial and landmark assessment division. In 1959, Walter married Rosemarie Haake of North Bergen, NJ. They moved to Kinnelon, NJ where they lived for 44 years, raised three children, and Walter worked as a general contractor in town. Remembered for his relentless optimism, enthusiasm, and love of life, Walter could engender all with his animated ability to tell a story or joke. A passionate man with a generous spirit, he was propelled with endless energy. Walter was a loyal and faithful friend to all who knew him. A lover and connoisseur of all genres of music, he was an avid collector of vinyl records. Walter is survived by a sister, Anna Smith and former wife, Rosemarie Sokol. He leaves behind his beloved children Steven Sokol, Shawn Sokol, and Sharon Witt, grandchildren Axel Witt, Olin Witt, Connor Sokol, Parker Sokol, and Christian Sokol. A service will be held on March 21, 2015, 11:00 am at Our Lady of Magnificat, 2 Miller Road, Kinnelon, NJ 07405. Repass to follow, location to be announced before the service.
