William I. Spencer, age 90, of Pompton Plains, NJ, formerly of Toms River, NJ, entered into eternal rest, Wednesday, February 20, 2008.Mr. Spencer was born September 27, 1917 in New Brunswick, NJ, the son of the late Nicholas and the late Katherine (Skara) Spencer. He served in the Navy from 1941 to 1945 during World War II.He was employed by City of New York, as an Engineer for the Dept. of Public Works for 25 years.Mr. Spencer was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans, Toms River, and lifetime member of The American Legion.He is survived by his wife of 56 years Anita T. (Hocker) Spencer, a beloved daughter, Kathleen Adams and husband Theodore, one loving sister, Katherine Cornachio, and a loving brother Peter Gromacki. Also surviving are his cherished grandchildren, Jeffrey Adams, and Jennifer Beberman, five adored great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.Viewing hours will be Sunday, February 24th, 2008, from 2:00 -4:00 and 7:00-9:00 at The Morrison Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Avenue, Butler, NJ. The funeral will be Monday, 10:30am at St. Anthony's RC Church, Butler, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Butler.
