Winifred (Winnie) Ahlstrom O'Dougherty

January 21, 1928 — October 21, 2023

Winifred (Winnie) Ahlstrom O'Dougherty was born 1928 in Brooklyn, NY to parents Albert Ahlstrom and Grace O'Hara. She was the sister to Albert Jr. (2020) and Richard. She was married to Daniel Maurice O'Dougherty for 65 years before his death in 2015. The loving mother of nine children, Daniel Jr. (Cathy), Vickie (Leila), Peter (Diane), Timothy, Jean (Jim), David (Susan), Thomas (Lisa), Mark and John. She was also the adored grandmother of 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.


Winnie raised her family in Flatbush, Brooklyn and had a summer home in Highland Lakes, NJ. She became a fulltime resident of Highland lakes in 1980, and has lived in Cedar Crest Senior Living Apartments located in Pompton Plains for the past 10 years. Her education spanned many years, in 1942-1945 she attended James Madison High School in Brooklyn, NY. Soon after, 1945-1948 she graduated Pratt Institute and majored in Advertising Design and did Post Graduate studies at Brooklyn College. In 1948-1950 Winnie was hired as a Furniture Illustrator for "Michaels" in Brooklyn, NY, she then became a General Illustrator for men and boys' fashions for Gimbals' Department Store.


Winnie had a passion for art using all mediums but mostly worked with Watercolor. Her work was represented in many private collections including the Bank of New York, Tunne11 Advertising Agency in New York Savings Bank and so on. She was a member of the Port O Call Gallery, Warwick, NY. Her paintings had been included in the following shows, exhibitions, and museums; NJ Watercolor Juried annual show, the Audubon Artists and AAPL Annual Salmagundi Club Shows, the Naples Florida Art Association Art Encounter and so on. Winnie herself had Juried many Art Exhibitions throughout her career as a professional artist. For a period, she was the President of the North Jersey Art league and Warwick NY Art League. Winnie also taught art in St. Brendan's and St. Patrick's grade schools in Brooklyn NY.


A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023, from 1pm-3pm at The Morrison Etheridge Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Ave., Butler, N.J. All other services will be private.
